What Would Ian Do
Foundation

A question that became a way of living — with curiosity, warmth, and an open heart for every adventure ahead.

His Spirit

Born with a big happy smile

Born October 25, 1996, Ian was born already with a big happy smile. Ian met the world with humor, curiosity and an open and kind heart. A passionate traveler and hiker as well as an avid reader of adventure, Ian was never happier than when he was exploring new countries and meeting and encountering new people. Ian was warm and generous to everyone he met around the world and made numerous friendships and all adored him. Ian had a spirit that people were just drawn to. People would innately just give him food, and places to stay, they just wanted to experience his good ju-ju! The What Would Ian Do Foundation carries this grace and zest for adventure as well as his warmth forward.

He would live these fully

  • Curiosity

He'd ask the next question, chase the story, and learn everything a new place had to teach.

  • Adventure

He'd lace up his boots and climb, finding beauty and meaning on every trail.

  • Warmth

He'd make you feel welcome, with an easy smile and room at the table for all.

Live like Ian! When you hesitate or doubt, ask — “What Would Ian Do?”

His Story

A life lived wide open

Ian was born with a hunger for adventure. His mother Michelle traveled with Ian from a very young age and inspired him to continue his travels. Together they journeyed to Japan, the Galápagos, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, and beyond.

Those who were blessed to meet Ian were drawn to his quick wit, humor, easy-going personality, wide smile, mesmerizing blue eyes, and the captivating stories of his travels and encounters.

Ian drew people into his world of zen and took it one day at a time, one adventure at a time, one country at a time.
